Logistics Costs: Kazakhstan is the largest landlocked country among the five Central Asian nations. Goods can only be transported to Kazakhstan via land transport through the China-Kazakhstan border.

Weak Domestic Manufacturing Sector: Of Kazakhstan's 20 million population, 42.8% are under 25 years old. Furthermore, Kazakhstan is a typical resource-based country, with its economy primarily derived from mining. This also explains the country's inability to develop a manufacturing sector.

Consumer Habits: Kazakhstan has a large middle class. Before Chinese products entered the local market, consumers habitually purchased European and Japanese brands, believing that imports equal quality. This means that if Chinese products are sold at lower prices locally, they may perceive them as of lower quality, contributing to the 2-3 times price difference.

This field trip included visits to two of the most representative markets in Kazakhstan. My immediate impression was that prices in Kazakhstan are much higher than we expected, with consumer goods generally costing 2-3 times more than in China. During the trip, we discovered that infrastructure construction is booming there; even plastic pipes are sold out. Items like robotic vacuum cleaners, which cost over 1000 RMB in China, are selling for 5000 RMB locally and are still in short supply.
